Can animal manure be applIied directly to crops?

Many farmers apply unfermented sheep manure, chicken manure, pig manure, etc. directly to crops to save cost.

You’d better not apply untreated or decomposed livestock and poultry manure directly to crops. There are many hidden dangers, mainly in:

1):Infectious pests. Feces contain coliform bacteria, nematodes and other germs and pests. Direct use will lead to the spread of diseases and insect pests, crop disease, and also affect the human health of edible agricultural products; when unripe organic materials are fermented in the soil, they are easy to breed bacteria and pests. Also lead to the occurrence of plant diseases and insect pests;

2)Burning seedlings. After the non-fermented raw manure and other organic materials are applied to the ground, when the fermentation conditions are met, they will be fermented under the activity of microorganisms. When the fermentation site is close to the root and the crop plants are small, the heat generated by fermentation will affect the growth of the crops and burn them. Crop root system, leading to plant death in severe cases.

3)Toxic gas.During the decomposition process, harmful gases such as methane and ammonia are produced, causing acid damage and root damage to soil and crops

4)Soil lack of oxygen. Organic matter consumes oxygen in the soil during the decomposition process, making the soil temporarily in a state of anoxic state, which will inhibit the growth of crops.

5)The fertilizer effect is slow. Nutrients in unfermented and decomposed organic fertilizers are mostly organic or slow-acting, which cannot be directly absorbed and utilized by crops. They can only be absorbed and utilized by crops when they are decomposed and transformed into quick-acting forms. Therefore, direct application of unfermented organic fertilizers will slow down the fertilizer efficiency.

6)High cost . If it is used directly without treatment, the volume of organic material is large, the active ingredient is low, the transportation is inconvenient, and the cost of use is increased.
